It’s the last weekend of August, and Riversdale is sending summer out with food in the streets, art, storytelling, a leisurely bike ride and... bathtub racing.

Here are a few things worth checking out around the neighbourhood this week!

Forkin’ Around in Riversdale

Saturday, August 29 | 11 AM–6 PM | 20th Street West | Free

This is the big one.

20th Street closes between Avenues B and D for a full-day neighbourhood food festival featuring Riversdale restaurants and food makers, live music, a beer garden, games and a food drive.

There are also bathtub races. Teams in costume. In bathtubs. Racing down 20th Street.

The day wraps up with a free 5:30 PM screening of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the Roxy Theatre. If you've never been to the Roxy before... ohhhh this is your chance! It's one of the last remaining atmospheric theatres and feels like you're in an old Spanish courtyard. Go!

Atomic Prairie Pick: This one. No contest.

Dear Diary at Art Bar

Friday, August 28 | 7 PM | Art Bar

There’s something wonderfully dangerous about reading your old diary out loud in front of strangers.

Dear Diary takes over Art Bar Friday night, with people sharing the earnest, embarrassing and occasionally unhinged things their younger selves committed to paper.

Little Library Slow Roll Tour

Saturday, August 29 | 2 PM | Departs Gather Local Market | Free

Bring your bike for a community bike ride and check out our little free libraries!

Saskatoon Cycles is leading an all-ages, casual ride through the neighbourhood, sticking mainly to slower-traffic roads and visiting Little Free Libraries along the way.

If you’ve got books you’d like to donate, bring them along and help restock the libraries as you ride.

WEGO at Remai Modern

Sunday, August 30 | 10 AM–4 PM | Free

Remai Modern’s annual WEGO festival takes over the museum and surrounding outdoor spaces with art, music, dance and hands-on activities for all ages.

It’s free, it’s right down by the river, and it’s an easy walk from Atomic Prairie.

Make Your Own Soap at Saskatoon Makerspace

Thursday, September 3 | 6–9 PM | Saskatoon Makerspace | 18+

Learn something new at Saskatoon Makerspace.

This hands-on beginner workshop covers the basics of cold-process soap making, from choosing plant-based ingredients to customizing scents and colours. You’ll make your own batch of soap to take home and learn how to cure and store it properly.

You can even bring your own essential oils, colours or spices if you want to experiment.

Worth the Wander: Free Admission at Wanuskewin

Sunday, August 30 | Wanuskewin Heritage Park | Free

This one requires leaving the neighbourhood, but it’s worth the trip.

Sunday is the last SGI-sponsored Free Admission Sunday at Wanuskewin, offering a chance to explore the trails, exhibits and programming at one of the region’s most important cultural sites—without the usual admission fee.

What’s Up, Riversdale? is Atomic Prairie’s weekly roundup of things worth eating, seeing, hearing and wandering into around Riversdale —with the occasional trip farther afield when something is worth the wander.
