Riversdale Art Walk and Nuit Blanche Eve

Location, location, location!

You chose Atomic Prairie because you like to be close to the action — and this might be one of the best weekends of September to be staying in Riversdale.

Friday night, the neighbourhood turns into an art walk. Saturday brings Nuit Blanche to the river, plus two pretty excellent reasons to wander a little farther. And Sunday? You can learn the stories hiding along 20th Street.

So, what’s up in Riversdale this week?

🎨 FRIDAY: Riversdale Art Walk + Nuit Blanche Eve

Friday, September 18 | 5–9 PM

Throughout Riversdale | FREE

This is the big one.

The Riversdale Art Walk is teaming up with Nuit Blanche Eve, turning 20th Street and the surrounding blocks into a choose-your-own-adventure of open studios, exhibitions, live performances and interactive art.

There is also a Riversdale Cocktail Crawl with four Riversdale venues making special feauture cocktails/mocktails, including: Art Bar, Bar Stella, Loqui, and POP Wine Bar.

Expect Indigenous dance, K-pop/jazz/hip-hop, drag, live hip hop, augmented reality, interactive sculpture-making, printmaking, projections and a whole pile of neighbourhood businesses opening their doors.

Honestly, just start walking.

☎️ ATOMIC PRAIRIE PICK: DON’T FORGET!

Friday, September 18 | During Riversdale Art Walk

Art Bar | 229 20th Street W | FREE

Pick up the phone. ☎️

DON’T FORGET! is an interactive audio installation featuring recordings from Saskatoon Story Jam storytellers — all told through lists.

Dial your way through strange inventories of life: intrusive thoughts, forgotten roommates, questionable nicknames, things received on trains and more.

This one started as a Story Jam experiment and somehow ended up inside an old wall telephone.

Time travel not guaranteed.

🍔 FRIDAY + SATURDAY: Library of Things Community BBQ

Friday, September 18 | 9 AM–4 PM

Saturday, September 19 | 10 AM–4 PM

KMS Tools | 105 Avenue F South | FREE

Here’s a very Riversdale kind of idea: why buy something you’ll use twice when you could borrow it?

Library of Things YXE is a local lending library where members can borrow useful items instead of buying them. This weekend they’re hanging out at KMS Tools & Equipment for a free community BBQ.

Grab some food, learn about the Library of Things and meet some neighbours. Donations are welcome.

🌙 SATURDAY: Nuit Blanche Saskatoon

Saturday, September 19 | 7 PM–Midnight

River Landing + Downtown + Broadway | FREE

Friday is the warm-up. Saturday night is Nuit Blanche.

This year’s theme is Future, with contemporary art, projections, installations, performances and interactive works appearing across River Landing, downtown and Broadway.

River Landing is one of the main festival areas, which means you can head out from Atomic Prairie, walk toward the river and start exploring.

Stay out late. That’s the point.

🚶 SUNDAY: History of 20th Street Walking Tour

Sunday, September 20 | 3 PM

Meet at parking lot, 20th Street & Avenue B (beside Doug's Spoke 'N Sport)

FREE / donations appreciated

You’ve walked 20th Street. Now find out what used to be here.

Local historian Terry Hoknes leads a walking tour through the history of one of Saskatoon’s oldest commercial streets. All ages are welcome.

This one feels particularly appropriate if you’re staying at Atomic Prairie: walk out the door and learn some of the stories behind the neighbourhood you’ve been exploring all weekend.

✨ WORTH THE WANDER: 33rd Street Fair

Saturday, September 19 | 10 AM–5 PM

33rd Street W, Avenues C–F | FREE

Before Nuit Blanche starts, wander north.

The 13th Annual 33rd Street Fair shuts down several blocks for an outdoor market, food trucks, live music, street performers, dance, circus arts, face painting, balloon twisting and more. It’s free and family-friendly.

Basically: 33rd Street Fair by day. Nuit Blanche by night. Sleep Sunday.

🤠 ALSO WORTH THE WANDER: CCMA Awards

Saturday, September 19 | 6–8 PM

SaskTel Centre | Ticketed

Okay, this one is definitely not walking distance from Atomic Prairie.

But the Canadian Country Music Association Awards are in Saskatoon!

Canada’s big night in country music takes over SaskTel Centre Saturday, wrapping up four days of Country Music Week in the city. The show includes performances from a big slate of Canadian country artists, including Saskatchewan’s own Tenille Arts, Hunter Brothers, Kalsey Kulyk and Jess Moskaluke.

If this is your thing, there are loads of events all over the city to check out this week!

That’s our little taste of what’s happening in Riversdale this week.

One of our favourite things about this neighbourhood is that you don’t necessarily need an itinerary. Head out the door, walk toward 20th Street or the river, and see what you find.

See you around the neighbourhood!
