Location, location, location!

You chose Atomic Prairie because you like to be close to the action — and this week, Riversdale has stories, drawing, karaoke, mushrooms and a little country music in the mix.

So, what’s up in Riversdale this week?

✏️ THURSDAY: Draw With Me Story Jam

Thursday, September 10 | Doors 6:30 PM | Show 7 PM

Art Bar | 229 20th Street W | 19+ | PWYC

Listen. Draw. Reveal. React. Repeat.

Local storytellers share five-minute stories while you draw whatever the story inspires. After each story, there’s karaoke and a little extra time to finish your creation before the hosts reveal the audience’s drawings and roast ’n toast the results.

No artistic talent required! Drawing supplies are provided, or bring your favourite markers and pencils.

Atomic Prairie Pick: We admit some bias here. But stories + drawing + karaoke + a room full of strangers making weird art together? YEP!

Check out Draw With Me with Saskatoon Story Jam.

🌊 FRIDAY + SATURDAY: Carried by Rivers, Held by Lands

Friday, September 11 + Saturday, September 12 | 9 AM–5 PM

Remai Modern | 102 Spadina Crescent E

Head toward the river for a two-day gathering bringing together artists, curators and collaborators for conversations about land, food, climate and community.

Friday includes CLIMAVORE Assembly: The Prairie Table, while Saturday features artist conversations and reflections connected to Carried by rivers, held by lands.

A good one if contemporary art and big ideas are your thing — and Remai Modern is an easy walk from Atomic Prairie.

💃 SATURDAY: Storytime Dance Party (For the little ones!)

Saturday, September 12 | 10:30 AM

Space on H | 720 Avenue H South | FREE

Got little people with energy to burn?

Saskatoon Public Library, Riversdale Community Association and Space on H host a free Storytime Dance Party every Saturday morning.

Stories. Music. Dancing. A very good reason to get the wiggles out.

Lotsa clapping. Sometimes there are bubbles!

🍄 SUNDAY: Mushroom Workshop

Sunday, September 13 | 1–3 PM

CHEP Garden | 720 Avenue H South | Registration required

We have a lot of love for CHEP Good Food. They do fantastic work around food security, gardening and community in Saskatoon, and this week they’re bringing some wonderfully nerdy food science to Riversdale.

CHEP and Zach Belak of Proxima Research & Development are hosting a hands-on workshop covering mushrooms, cultivation varieties and growing methods — including ways to use mushrooms outdoors.

Mushrooms! Science! Gardening! NOTE: This is part one of two. There is also a Fermentation Workshop on Tuesday, September 15th. Registration required for both!

🤠 TUESDAY: Gather ’Round: Kickoff to Country Music Week

Tuesday, September 15 | 11 AM–12:15 PM

Gather Local Market | FREE

Country Music Week is coming to Saskatoon, and Gather is kicking things off with a free community celebration.

Expect a little country music energy, bandanas and even a quick group dance lesson.

Gather is right by River Landing, so wander down, grab something to eat and get your line dancing on!

While you're there, check out Gather Local Market for local food, drinks and vendors. Their outdoor Farmers Market is also still running in September, so it’s worth checking what’s happening while you’re here.

✨ WORTH THE WANDER: Broadway Street Fair

Saturday, September 12 | 10 AM–5 PM

Broadway Avenue | FREE

Okay, this one requires crossing the river — but it’s worth the wander.

The 43rd Annual Broadway Street Fair takes over the Broadway District with more than 170 vendors, local shops and restaurants, food trucks, live music, art, family activities, roaming performers and plenty of things you probably weren’t planning to buy until you saw them.

It’s one of Saskatoon’s biggest neighbourhood street parties, and admission is free. Go hungry. Wear comfortable shoes. Wander!

That’s our little taste of what’s happening in Riversdale this week.

One of our favourite things about this neighbourhood is that you don’t necessarily need an itinerary. Head out the door, walk toward 20th Street or the river, and see what you find.

See you around the neighbourhood!
